I recently had the pleasure of shooting Katherine and Matt’s engagement session and am very excited about shooting their upcoming wedding in March! Here are a few of my favorites from their session…
Eat, Sleep, Breathe: Theater
Ah, the theater. …How I love the theater.
I have been involved with Christian Family Theatre for seven years – first as a student, until I graduated from high school, and I’ve been a part of the staff team since then.
When we were given our final assignment in Multimedia II – to make a promotional video for a client – I immediately knew that I wanted to create a video for CFT. I had a blast making it, and I’m very excited about how it turned out. Of course there are still some things that I would like to change, but for the most part, I’m satisfied. Have a look…
The Final Teaser
Even though the final product of Christian Family Theatre’s promo video has already been publicized, I decided to still upload this “final teaser” of Jeremiah interviewing me.
After I finished interviewing him and the siblings, he suddenly turned the tables on me and made me do the interview as well – but with his questions, instead… Of course that’s where things got interesting.
Full Circle
Here’s a fun fact that you might not have known about me: I was home schooled from fifth grade through high school. On top of that, though, my four years in high school were spent at something of a “home school group,” which…I could try to explain, but I would probably end up butchering the explanation, so I’ll proceed with telling you about my final project in Photojournalism…
Our final assignment in Photojournalism was to do a photo story in the form of a multimedia presentation on a topic of our choice. I chose to do mine on Compass Prep, which is where I attended high school, as mentioned. So again, instead of trying to explain it, I’ll just show you the finished project…
I spent a total of nine days there, over the span of about five weeks – though I’m not sure how many hours per day (…but it was a lot). It was a very interesting experience to be back at Compass, seeing how things had changed from when I was there; everything seemed very different, but also the same. The core values, vision, and atmosphere remained the same, which made me realize how much I missed my days of high school there.
After a couple days of being there to shoot, I became comfortable and it felt like I was just supposed to be there…even though some of the students still didn’t know who I was and were confused as to why I was there. And after all of my time there, after I finished the project and showed it to them, I said my goodbyes and went on my way…but it just felt weird knowing that I wouldn’t be back…at least for a while…
There have already been some talks of me going back there next year to possibly keep taking photos kind of “behind the scenes” like I was for the project, and also to possibly teach a photography class. I would absolutely love to go back and work there. Especially doing something like that.
So, here’s to keepin’ my fingers crossed.
Cheers.
Once Upon a Time…
Last semester, our final project in Advanced Portraiture was a Fantasy/Fashion Portrait. I chose to lean toward the fantasy side of things, and asked the lovely and enchanting Janna to model for me as Snow White…
We had a great time on this shoot, and I’m very pleased with the outcome. There were a lot of other photos with some awesome poses, but the lighting was best in this one. Thanks again to Janna for modeling, Jennifer for doing her hair and makeup, Christian Family Theatre for the costume, Jack for the equipment, and Jeremiah for assisting.
Pie Makes Everything Better
When taking care of his sick significant other, the typical man is likely to bring flowers to her. Or perhaps balloons, or a card…something of that nature.
But my man? No. My fiancé knows me better than that.
Jeremiah brought a “Get Well” pie to me last night. Razzleberry, at that. My favorite.
Of course I would have appreciated anything he brought, but I especially appreciate how well he knows me.
And yes…I did take this with my iPhone. Who wants to be fancy when they’re sick?
Janelle
Here’s another teaser from the interviews I’ve been doing for Christian Family Theatre’s promo video. Like Jeremiah, Janelle asked me to turn the camera back on after doing an actual interview, and this is what we got.
My Body, the Mac
Warning: If you’ve never used a Mac before, you might not understand this post…and I apologize for that.
Last night, I realized that there’s a similarity between Macs and my life.
When Macs get overrun with tasks, they tend to freeze up momentarily – they express this by the cursor turning into a spinning rainbow (or as one of my instructors calls it, the “spinning pinwheel of death”). Sometimes when this happens, you have no other choice but to “Force Quit” the program, which means exactly what it sounds like.
As I briefly explained a few posts ago, I’ve been pretty stressed lately what with all the finals for school and all that jazz. But of course I’ve just had to keep pushing through, even though that has meant sacrificing some sleep and nourishment. Well…I think all of that has caught up to me.
I suppose this past Tuesday night could be considered my “pinwheel of death” moment – I kept trying to get stuff accomplished, but my body was slowing me down…proverbially screaming at me to go to sleep. And yesterday…I think someone selected “Force Quit” on my life (on everything I’ve been doing, that is; obviously I’m still alive). In other words…I’m sick.
So now I’m forced to slow down and get some rest – I can’t physically bring myself to do anything else. Except for editing, of course. Lots and lots of editing. …Nothing but editing, today through Tuesday.
Wish me luck.
A Peek into my Personal Life
Lately I’ve been interviewing people from my theater group for my latest Multimedia project. A few days ago, I set everything up to do some interviews with my future in-laws, as they are also in the group (Christian Family Theatre). After I finished with the girls, I asked my fiancé, Jeremiah, if he would be willing to be interviewed too, since he used to be in it as well. Surprisingly, he agreed to do a legitimate interview with me (normally he would only want to joke around). But afterwards…the not-so-surprising thing happened. He asked me to turn the camera back on and ask him the same questions again, only this time…he was going to answer the way he wanted to answer. So, here’s the result of that craziness…
And there’s more where this came from. Not only more of Jeremiah, but of his siblings as well. …And even yours truly. So stay tuned this week, as I’ll be posting them here and there to bide the time before I post the real finished product.
Save me, Sticky Notes.
Let’s be honest, folks…finals are stressful.
Here’s what’s on the docket:
1) Elaborate Portraiture final project
2) Largely involved Multimedia final project
3) Absolutely huge Photojournalism final project
4) …And a final exam in a class I’m only taking in order to be full time (Computer Concepts)…to boot
Oh, and I have just a little over a week to finish everything.
Hello, panic mode.
So here’s the way I deal with things when chaos ensues…
Lots and lots of sticky notes. They have never failed me before – I’m sure they’ll still hold true this time around.
